Plants - Living or Artificial? |
The one thing goldfish fanciers all know, though some would not like to admit it, is that goldfish are not especially kind to live plants. In most cases, goldfish treat plants the way we do potato chips - they munch on them. This is the best argument against live plants and for artificial ones.
Many experienced goldfish hobbyists know that to keep live plants in with goldfish requires ultimately more care for the plants than for the fish themselves. It can be done, but it requires work and constant attention. You should consider how much time you want to devote to your fish tank before you decide on artificial or live plants. There are many goldfish experts who do not keep goldfish with either gravel or plants, but that's not aesthetically pleasing.
Another positive about artificial plants is that there are a great number to choose from, and many of the better-made ones look like the real thing. As with anything in life, the cheaper the artificial plants you buy, the more plastic they look.
