Body Slime Fungus (highly contagious)

This deadly affliction can kill your fish in two days if not caught in time. The protective slime coating starts peeling off and turns white-ish, and it would appear that fish were molting or shedding. The fins are gradually covered as well. Eventually, the body becomes red from irritation.

Call your pet store right away - no time should be lost Commercial cures are available, but must be found quickly. A salt bath with warm temperatures may be a temporary solution, as it may retard growth of the fungus. But a cure must be found, and a salt bath won't do it. Some people follow severe salt treatments with ich cures. This is also a good idea. Note: Orinda and Lion head owners beware. In the spring or summer a whitish film will cover the heads of these fish. Be very discerning. More times than not, this is a stage of continued hood growth.
